England
- is in north western Europe, so close to France that a tunnel has been built to connect them.
The Atlantic Ocean and Ireland are on one side and the North Sea on the other. Although not a large country it is well populated and makes a brilliant holiday destination
because of the diversity that can be found without a lot of travel.
The Royal Family
with all it's history, palaces, pageantry, treasures and parks gives an added dimension to your England visit.
The Queeen, Queen Elizabeth II lives with Prince Philip in Buckingham House in London. During the summer it is possible to visit some parts of Buckingham Palace, the Queens Gallery, the Royal Mews and Kensington Palace.
London is the capital of the country. A large percentage of 54 million residents live in the area surrounding London in the south of the country. The weather tends to be warmer in the south and the gardens flower earlier in the year. Late April is the
start of the season for gardening.
Windsor with its royal connections,
and Stratford on Avon famous for its links to Shakespeare and seaside towns like Brighton are in the south of the country.
York, Chester, Liverpool and Manchester are in the north of the country.
There are historical landmarks in all part of the country, as well as a number of national parkds noted for their outstanding beauty.
Visitors to England can be assured of being able to purchase just about any product in the variety of shops and shopping centres.

- Banks are open 10am to 4pm but there are cash machines in most large supermarkets or town streets.
- The tourist information offices in England will assist with accommodation as well as providing information on areas of local interest but they are only available during shop working hours.
Hotels in England are available
in all grades from 2 star to 5 star. Booking ahead is advisable in the months between April and September, and in December or on holiday dates.
Budget travellors
can find cheap holidays in England using the hostels available
throughput the country. The youth hostels association (YHA)
accepts guests of all ages and there are many other hostels and bed and
breakfast houses at very reasonable prices.
Currency - the currency in England is the £ (pound sterling).
It is very easy to change euros or dollars to pounds in any travel agent or bank.
You can also change money at the airport on arrival.
Transport - transport links in England are very good. The major airports have good rail and bus links. Taxi cabs are readily available. They will show For Hire if not engaged. Private hire taxis require
pre-booking but if you book one while waiting for your luggage you will usually only have around 10 minutes to wait. They are usually cheaper than the traditional black cabs. This is a legacy name for official taxis as they now come in all shapes and sizes.
If you wanted to book a cab for the day you would be best negotiating with one of the private companies. Car hire is available at the airport - but do remember for the duration of your holidays in England you must drive on the left hand side of the road.
